What is the most easiest way to share, map or... this folder.

One has XP and one has Visata if makes any difference.

Thanks

  1. Right click on the folder and go to Sharing and Security and enable it for that folder from there.

  2. Normally you would need a WiFi router however you can create an ad hoc network

    It is explained at this microsoft page:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using...

  3. Hi,

    Heres a step by step guide.

    Firstly you need to setup a pc on both pc's, on the xp machine click;

    start

    my computer

    in the left hand navigation click on my network places

    again in the left hand navigation click on setup a home or small office network, follow the wizard and leave everything as default.

    Next to setup a network on the vista machine, now i'm not sure how to do this, so it maybe worth googling it.

    But i think that you have to click;

    start

    network

    network properties

    and then somewhere there should be a tab for network name, click customise and change it to MSHOME like on the xp machine.

    Next reboot both pcs and once they have started up, go on the pc which you want to share the folder off of. So for example the xp machine.

    Go to my documents and create a new folder and call it what you like, then right click the folder and click on sharing, give the folder a shared name and click ok, the folder will then be shared on the network. It is the same to share a folder in vista.

    Now to connect to the folder i will firstly tell you how to on the xp machine, click;

    start

    my network places

    view network pc's

    then you will see the icon for all the pc's on the network, double click the icon for the pc with the shared folder, then the folder will open and display the shared one. Right click the shared folder and click map network drive, this will place a shortcut in to my computer so its easy to access.

    Now to connect to a folder on the vista machine click;

    start

    network

    view full network map

    then just double click the icon for the pc and map network drive.

    Hope that helps, any problems just e-mail me.
