Question:

How can I shield or reduce the current being sensed by a Current Sensing Transducer?

Can I wrap anything around the wire to reduce the amount of current being tracked by the sensor? If there are two wires (2 phase?), will I need to wrap both?

  1. If the landlords installation is illegal, report him to the authorities.

If he tries to evict you for reporting him you will probably have legal recourse. If he evicts you for stealing power, there will probably be little you can do, even if his sub metering is illegal, your tampering with the electrical panel would probably be valid grounds for evicting you.

If the sum of the tenants usage does not add up to the total for the building,  the landlord might check to see what is wrong with his devices, and anything you could shield the wire with (perhaps something like a Mu-metal sleeve) would be visible.

  2. I see we don't know how those sensors work. To reduce the current being sensed, reduce the load being drawn. One way would be to increase the circuit load resistance/ If you can't do that, then about the only other thing that you might try is to use magnetic shielding. If the wires wrap around the sensor, then you might be out of luck.
