  1. The best way is to hire a college student (or someone else brave and innocent) to drive it for you.

  2. Taxes are really expensive.  Shipping will cost you 1500 depending where from.  You will have to pay a percentage of the value of the car in costa rica.  The newer the higher the percentage.  Just had a friend ship a 01 f-250 paid $19,000 here for the truck and $13,000 in taxes once in Costa Rica.  I wouldn't recommend driving for long periods of time with US plates you will just run into hassles.  Unless you have to have the car you have you would do better to buy in costa rica.

  3. You can ship it by boat (container is best) from California or Mexico or have someone you trust drive it to Costa Rica.Check to be sure Costa Rica will let you import it.Some Central American countries have restrictions on specific years, makes and models of cars.

  4. There are plenty of companies in Costa Rica willing to work with you when shipping a car but be warned you could be charged up to 40% of the value of the car in tax.  One simple way to get around this is keep the US plates and drive the car out of the country every 3 months.
