My son has been watching for about three months about a show a day with his dad. And I've known its not healthy and want to stop it now but my husband thinks its just a cartoon. Is there any proof I can show him?

  1. i agree with you in that sponge bob is not appropriate for an 18  month old. i think it isn't appropriate for any age. i watched an episode and in fact didn't get all the way thru it. crude humor and kind of gross. not sure what advice to give ya. just put your foot down. your husband should respect your wishes. before ya know it your child will start acting like those cartoon characters. whether people believe it or not what children watch on television does have an affect on their lives and minds.

  2. Spongebob is perfectly fine for him.Hes only 18 months so if you asked him who Spongebob he probally wouldnt know.Spongebob is a cartoon. He wont be exposed to s*x,drugs, violence,or language. In fact on Spongebob instead of cussing they say fish paste, barnacales, etc.Trust me Spongebob is perfectly fine.

  3. There are lots of new studies saying tv in general is very inappropriate for children under 2 years of age.  It causes a rewire in their brains and is linked to hyperactivity.

    Excerpt from article:

"Today, Cornell University researchers are reporting what appears to be a statistically significant relationship between autism rates and television watching by children under the age of 3. The researchers studied autism incidence in California, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Washington state. They found that as cable television became common in California and Pennsylvania beginning around 1980, childhood autism rose more in the counties that had cable than in the counties that did not. They further found that in all the Western states, the more time toddlers spent in front of the television, the more likely they were to exhibit symptoms of autism disorders...

    Another study states:

    "It's Official:

    TV Linked to Attention Deficit

babies and toddlers parked in front of the TV have a much higher risk of developing ADHD by age 7, a new study shows"
