Question:

How can I shut off the interior light in my Ford Ranger XLT?

I have a 1993 Ford Ranger XLT supercab with 90k miles on it. Today, when I returned to the truck, the interior light was still on. I thought I'd maybe left the door ajar, but when I started the car, the lights didn't turn off either. I tried moving the switch around, but the middle bulb will simply not shut off -only the bulbs on either side seem to be controlled by the switch.

I'm concerned about leaving this problem overnight and having my battery drained by the light. It's not obvious to me how to take off the cover of the light to remove the bulbs. Is there anything I can do to shut off the light and/or fix this problem?

  1. hi i would disconnect the battery overnight and get it to a shop in the morning

  2. you probably got bad door jam switch that's causing this too stay on like that, check that they will go out once in a while, for now remove the bulb or the fuse for it,hopefully it will just be a bad door switch causing this too happen, they only cost about ten bucks to replace, good luck.

  3. I would do these few things. Check make sure the doors all shut. Also maybe the bulb is getting ready to blow replace it with another and that might stop the problem. You also may have to replaced wires that go to the light.

  4. Just take the bulb out for now.

Take a flat head and gently pry the cover off. It's a pop on assembly.

  5. That center light is generally controlled by the brightness control k**b for your dash lights.  Try dimming them a bit and I think your problem will resolve.

  6. Make sure the switch on the dash isn't turned so the dome light is on all the time.   If you can't get it to turn off, pull the fuse for now.
