Question:

How can I sit my mattress on top of its bed frame without using the box springs?

I have a pillowtop mattress and it sits very high when it is on top of the frame and the box springs. I woud like to get rid of the box springs, but I also don't want to ruin my mattress....

  1. Go to lowe's and get some 2x4s.  Measure them to fit across your bedframe... they will stabalize your mattress and keep it from sinking.   (Look up Bed Slats to get the general idea - they sell them at IKEA, but its cheaper to just get 2x4s and put them so they touch). If you go into Lowe's or Home Depot to the lumbar department, and explain what they are doing.. they can tell you exactly how much you need.  You just need the measurements of your bedframe (sometimes its just easier to measure the mattress)

    Did this for 7 years at my moms house.

  3. Unless your mattress has a hard bottom, I wouldn't sit it on 2X4's.........I would use some MDF and cut that to fit the frame.  Be sure to use some sort of support in the middle so it doesn't sag.
