How can I split a HD signal to 2 tv's from 1 HD cable box??

  1. The problem here is that the cable box itself will only output and HD source to one connection type, meaning only HDMI, only DVI, or only Component.  It may output a non-HD (480p) video signal at the same time, but that wont get you the result you are looking for.

    You can buy a distribution amplifier for HDMI and/or Component cables (Red, Green, Blue and Red/white audio)

    This will receive the signal from your HD cable box, amplify it, and distribute the signal up to 10 outputs depending on the distribution amplifier.  Large CE stores such as Best Buy and Circuit City use these to distribute the HD signal you see in their stores to every TV.

    I would recommend looking online, as they can get very expensive and tough to locate in stores such as radio shack. You may also check your local electronic supply store.

    For the best picture and less signal loss.  I recommend using HDMI, plus it carries both audio and video in one cable, in stead of 5 individual cables (component video/audio)
