I am a freshmen in high school, I'm about 5'3'' and 110 lbs., I have never been a fast sprinter, yet my endurance is good because I have been playing soccer. I can run a sub 6 min. mile easily, however, I want to be quicker and a better sprinter because baseball is my favorite sport and I need to have fast times. What would you recomend, workout wise, I have access to the local Lifetime(Health club).

  1. practice sprinting. when i go run on the roads, i sprint fast for a bit, then walk, then sprint, then walk etc. really push yourself and when sprinting, just try and make yourself go that bit faster x x i can a sub 6 min mile as well :D!! x x

  2. People are born with various types of muscle fiber, some are "fast twitch" and others are endurance based and still others are pure strength, Many people have combinations of the three.Where track and field are concerned, you must find your niche and train incessantly with an informed coach for good results.

  3. If you want to get faster for baseball, then your training should be sport specific.  Go to the ball field when it's not being used or set up a home plate and first base somewhere with the correct distance between them.  Swing the bat and drop it like you got a hit.  Run as fast as you can to first base.  Have a friend or parent time you from the time the bat hits the ground until your foot hits first base.  Keep track of your times in a journal.  After you hit first base, continue jogging down the first base line to get you wind back.  Do this sprint training two times a week.  The first week do five repeats and add one more per week until you're doing fifteen for a session.  If a friend or parent can't time you, do the repeats anyway.  Concentrate on exploding out of the batters box and increasing you leg turnover.

On two other days a week, run a long distance slowly--this will increase your stamina.  Start with a run of twenty minutes and increase it one minute per run until you're doing forty minutes per slow run.

One other day per week, run a fairly good hill--this will build strength.  Run up and jog down.  First week only two repeats and add one per week until you get to seven.

The other two days are rest days.

  4. You can try using weights. but not the ankle or wrist ones, because I hear those are bad for you. Rather, use the body armor one.

  5. there are these awesome things that you can buy. they look like parachutes. they hook up to your waste and when you run they slow you down and make you work. these work all of your sprinting muscles and in effect make you faster. i have one. i got it for about $30 and it helped quite a bit.

  6. BY EATING HEALTHY FOOD AND TRAINING ALOT.

  7. run short distance like 50s or 40s as fast as u can( make sure u get timed it is very important because it tells u if u have imporved)  My track coach told me that, N it really works i use to run a 13 in da 100m and now i run a 11  (im gonna be a freshmen on september) <just letting u know>
