How can I start a career in comedy?

I've recently left school with no qualifications so I doubt I'd be able to get a normal job. I'm always the one in the crowd to make the group laugh etc and I feel it would be a great career option for me. People say I'm like Lee Evans.

How would I go about doing something like this?

  1. Go to little places where they star opening and closing acts on stage and work your way to the top and maybe contact with some comedy managers.

  2. Get yourself an agent who will find you venues to perform in, negotiate fees for you and give you advice.

  3. Agents will not take you on unless you've already made a name for yourself locally.  Plus they want money.  There is not a lot of money in comedy unless you become famous which is insanely difficult.  Comedy is better done on the side.  But, if you'd like to pursue it, find some local comedy clubs that have open mic nights.  Put your stuff out there.  A lot of owners of other clubs will go to these open mic nights to see if they can find new entertainment for their own places so you might get noticed.  You can also test your material and see what works and what doesn't.  5 minutes of material is good to start out with.. eventually you'll build that to longer, but it takes a while.  Don't look for an agent, they'll find you.

    Good luck.

  4. An old peoples home.  They always need cheering up and if they are in a home they usually have nothing to laugh about.  I would think that this would be a good starting place.

  5. find an agent he might be able to help.................
