I am a graduate. I know how to cook, but don't have a good job. So I have decided to start a roadside "dhaba" (take away eating point). Where can I go to learn more about cooking and catering? How can I learn to be cost efficient?

  1. simple just go to a road side and open a dhaba

  2. I hope you have learnt business management too.if not do it first.calculate the incomes and expenses.find a nice and cheap and attractive site on the highway and build a nice looking restaurant.success will be naturally.

  3. You said you are graduate and knowing how to cook. Simply start up...... cooking will teach you itself. No need to join anywhere to start. Believe in self start......intially you will fall on your mouth but later you will taste your own sucess. Make other dhaba owners in contact, try to extract the trade tricks from them.

And implement tricks with using your own brain.

Be concious about spending/investing your own money.Keep record of your costs and manage within what capital you have for your dhaba. Start with small infrastructure, less capital will inspire you to achieve big goals with maximum efforts......

  4. dude....try out sum hotel mgmt institutes which hve diploma courses in cookery (they r called apprentices). thers 1 i knw in qutub inst area in south del.....check em out .....they got diff courses in cookery....catering....n services industry .

  5. Get a place first, u can have 2 kind of places- legal and illegal, if u have been the padnewala graduate types dont go for illegal, get a place anywhere-- a garage, a smalll shop.

Get a team of people, start whippping out good basic dishes like paneer makhani, butter chicken, dont go for quantity, go for quality. you will get going for sure,.. and once u do, do not forget to give me a treat in ur dhaba!!  good luck  :-)

  6. To be cost efficient, you can start your take away / home delivery eating service from your home itself. Advertise by hand bills or leaflets in newspapers in the radius of 3-4 kilometres of your home and give the facility of placing order over phone and home delivery. Also extend services for small home parties, kitty parties, birthdays, tiffin service etc.

For learning more, you may join any good short term course (3-6 months) to start with and depending on the response of your business, you can go in for more learning and catering services.
