I really want to start a recycling club at my school. We waste so much and don't even know it and were just adding more pollution to our planet. I've googled everything on how to start one but I can't figure out how to do it in my area (CT). Any suggestions?

  1. That's a super idea! More schools definitely need recycling programs.

so...you'll have to get your principal to agree to this by...

1)Get like 500 signatures from your classmates to show that the school really does want a recycling program. And so when you show your principal the petition you got signed by your peers, he'll know that by saying yes to your proposition, he'll be pleasing a majority of the school.

2)Show your principal a plan that you have. Show him where you plan on having the recycling bins, and how they will get emptied and put into a larger recycling box you have outside that would get picked up every day by your local dump. And contact the dump before showing your principal the plan, and have them agree to picking up your recycling.

    3) Then you and some friends everyday (or every other day) can make a "recycling club" and it will be your job to empty the bins. You could meet in the morining or after school. Also your club can organize activities, such as "whichever grade can recycle the most in one week wins free ice cream" or something like that. Make sure you get a teacher's permission so you can use their room as a meeting spot.

4)Buy a bin to show your principal what the recycling cans would look like. But one that you would have for paper, and the one you would have for cans. Call your dump too and see if they are able to provide you with you can put outside for when they come to pick up your recycling (you know what i mean? Like a big garbage box). Tell him it wouldn't cost much (get some estimates) and it's all for a good cause.

5)And explain to him about what global warming is, and what it means to help the earth. Show him/her that you are passionate about helping the earth, and have him look at how much WASTE your school producing in just one! And tell him/her it really adds up. You gotta get yoru point accross.

Tell him/her what your club and program hope to accomplish (which is to help the earth, i hope)

Good luck from a fellow student!!!!

  2. Here's what my school does.  We have an environmental club; if you don't have one, ask a teacher to help and found one yourself (that looks good for colleges).  We put bins into classrooms where teachers asked for them (some of our bins are just cardboard boxes because we don't have much money).  Part of the duty of the club members is to pick up the recycling.  The recycling is stored in a classroom until the end of the week when a club member (with a car) takes the recycling to the local recycling center and the club receives money.

  3. contact if your in california

    department of recycling

    ref: department of conservation

call them up! they will give you free things for your school to recycle

  4. Talk with your principle about it, they would be able to help you a great deal, and would most likely be enthusiastic about it since recycled waste becomes cash for the school.

  5. Talk2 ur princible or dean about it and if they say no then spread the word 2 your classmates and talk2 the teachers about it.

when u talk2 the princible or dean make sure 2 tell her what the club will do and how it will have an effect 2 fight against global warming.
