  1. I have a low regard for agents and agencies in general, but one must assume they serve some purpose as members of an ELITE CLUB, affiliated.

The key might be, in actually becoming known by and affiliated with those orgs. that control the craft, IE: SAG, EQUITY, AFTRA, etc.

Once established, certainly advertising, solicitous self promotion, and some talent pool would help.

Knowing the craft and PEOPLE could benefit you, as well as keeping a day job, while you wait for the first or next commission check.

I'll assume there are other issues and levels of licensing etc. to do what you suggest you want to do.

  2. Wait, do you want to be a Casting Director or a Talent Agent?  Two totally different things.  A Casting Director gets hired by production companies to hire talent for their projects (films, commercials, etc.) An agent takes on talent and sends them on auditions for those project.

First, you can't just jump in before you know what you're doing.  In my opinion, the thing to do is to intern then work for the type of business that you wish to open.  Look for internships through http://www.entertainmentcareers.net/ or contact Casting offices / Talent Agents directly.  You have to be willing to work starting in mailrooms and probably for free or little pay.  It's about the knowledge you'll be gaining.

If you are not in a major market like LA or NY contact your local film associations for Agency or CD offices in your state.

    good luck,

    Marianne

  3. Anyway you want!!!
