How can I start my website to sell my paintings?

I paint and don't have time to go to art shows a lot so I'm trying to start a website to sell them. How would I do that? I first need to know where and how to start a website, and then how to have the paintings delivered and charge people for them. I really don't know anything about this kind of stuff except for the painting. Thank you sooo... much!

  1. Hi Jack.  How much money do you want to spend on your website?  Do you have any html or web design experience?  There are a few free solutions, such as setting up a profile on Myspace or Facebook, and upload pictures of your paintings there.  You can also get a free website from http://www.citymax.com/, where you can set up a shopping cart and so on.

If you want more advice on how to do the website thing, I can help you offline.  Email me.

  2. Hi, great question...

One way I can answer your question is by encouraging you to take a look at my photo marketing blog here: http://photomarketeers.com What I talk about (marketing photography) works just as well for marketing artworks, or selling your paintings online.

I also wrote a (free) guide that shows you how to can create a WordPress based 'photo or art niche'  blog similar to mine, and how to get it up and running, and everything you need to do this. You can download this guide for free by signing up to my newsletter here: http://photomarketeers.com/make-your-own...

Or, just email me and I'll send it to you. :)

I hope this helps... any other questions just ask.

  3. Explore,

    or

    With all the Best.

  4. try one of these:

    www.heartinternet.co.uk

    www.123-reg.co.uk

    www.1&1.co.uk

to create your own domain name and website.

I would suggest using paypal to charge your customers because it is safe and simple for both you and your customer.

    Hope this helps :)

Oh yeah and Deviant art will sell your art for you for a small cut of the profit... and you can pay for adverts on the deviant art website which will last until a certain amount of people have clicked the adverts. this is quite inexpensive also.

  5. you could instead of creating a whole new website take pictures of the painting and sell it on ebay.com

  6. Recommend that you keep your cost down first when setting up an online presence for your artwork. You can get a free professional website with Microsoft Office Live Small Business - http://starturl.com/officelive . Currently, MS is offering a free domain (i.e. yourartsite.com) for the first year. It has a free online design tool that lets you create web pages without coding and you can easily upload photos of your artwork to it. Initially, you can use your site for more of a gallery/display of your artwork and get people to contact you via email (included as well). Later on, you can upgrade with an online store to process payments and take orders by adding the Store Manager add-on to it.
