How can I stop Microsoft Excel from doing the following?

A. When I type "34.20", in turns into "34.2". How can I stop this? (Yes, I want it to be like this)

B. When I type, "1:12.11",it turns into "01:12.1". How can I stop this?

  1. A.   Format the Cells as Text, then type in 34.20

    B.  Format the Cells as General, you should be ok.


  2. Format the cell in decimal 2 place padding.....like the currency setting...

  3. You need to format the cells correctly or format them as text-only.

    Right-click the cell, column-heading, or row-heading and go to choose-format.

    Your first example, you can set number format (or currancy if it's money) and specify 2 decimal places.

    Your second example looks like time but there's no exact preset entry for what you seem to want, try choosing "custom" format and enter the following (modified time format) exactly:

    mm:ss.00;@
