Question:

How can I stop a genetic trait? (body wise)?

Most of the women on my mother's side of the family have thighs (and butts) on the bigger side. I'm only 14, but I've started to notice my thighs getting larger, while the rest of me stays the same. My mom says I can't avoid it because her whole family (the women atleast) has large thighs and I'm going to end up like them. Is it possible for me to "outsmart" that one stupid little trait, and have decent looking thighs and butt? What should I do, and what should I avoid? Please help me, it's really been killing my confidence!

  1. Just short of voodoo magic and divine intervention, theres no way to escape genes. While you can excercise away the thighs, your coding will stay the same. Embrace the trait! The more you hide it, the more it shows. My advice? Get a REALLY good pair of jeans that make your thighs and butt look good.

  2. This isn't what you want to hear, but if your genetically predisposed to having big thighs, you'll tend to have big thighs.

You can restrict their growth by eating less, but the only way you can stop that trait from being passed on is to not have children.

  3. I know EXACTLY how you feel because I'm in the same situation. I know that this isn't going to be the answer you're looking for, but there's nothing you can do about it. Eat a healthy, balanced diet and exercise reguarly and they will be less noticable, but you can't just make them go away. And buy clothes that flatter your figure.

  4. With proper exercise you can sculpt your  body

to be JUST the way you want it. be SURE to avoid

*over working* the area though because i have seen

some women do too much stair master

and their legs are STILL too big just muscular.

if you only work on that one problem area

you are still going to look out of proportion.

Make sure you are working out regularly and not over eating.

Your work out should be balanced.  If i were you,

i would start jogging.  Slow jogging should help you

    achieve thinner legs muscles.

Just think of the difference and compare

    the body of a sprinter

to that of a long distance runner.

the sprinters are thick and muscular

while the long distance runners as long and lean.

find an exercise that you like

and do your best to keep in shape!

  5. I agree with sadieclam. You can't outsmart genetics. If your father doesn't carry this trait, you may not end up with larger thighs. However, most likely what you suspect will be true. You can exercise and such, but otherwise, just find pants that flatter your thighs and behind.
