How can I stop a water leak from a plastic pool part?

Question

The plastic housing that the skim basket sits in is cracked on the bottom.I need a putty or tape to stop this leak. I don't want to replace it right now with only a couple of weeks of swimming left.

There is something called M-Seal which we get here in india i do not know if you get the same in your country google it out and check it , It is good for water pipe cracks and any kind of leakage. Hope you get it.

Best stuff is epoxy putty. I use "Selleys Aquakneadit" which will cure under water (so no need to drain pool out).

I'm in Australia but I'm sure your local hardware would have something similar.

PS Rough up the surface that you are going to patch with some sand paper so that the epo-putty sticks better, and don't be to too stingey putting it on. You will need to put it on the inside of the skimmer to start with, and once that has cured (and stopped leaking) you could put some on the outside for extra strength.

I would recommend using an epoxy.  Drain the water to a level below the bottom of the skimmer.  Then wipe it off, so it is dry. Then apply the epoxy as directed.  You can find epoxy at any hardware store, or home center.  It is sometimes reffered to as "5-minute epoxy".

I had this happen with my hot tub.  There are glues etc.  They need time to dry and sometime leave an unlevel surface.  I used aluminum tape.  It's super sticky and leaves a level surface it is durable and a quick temporary fix.  You have to get the surface dry, use alcohol or glass cleaner with ammonia (to dry quick).  Cut the tape and do a "dry" fit before removing the tape backing.  Cut to size remove backing and tape.  You can use more than one piece of tape.
