My boyfriend and I argue quite a bit, but not all the time. We love each other so much, and are committed to each other. What can we do to stop arguing or at least minimize it?

  2. How does it start?  If, in hindsight, it's usually him, don't stay.  If it's you, figure out what the triggers are.  Be aware of them, and be extra-careful to handle them without an argument.

If the tone of his voice (or message) bothers me, I just tell him "ok, calm down, no need for this".  If it's the idea of something he says, I ask him why he thinks that way.  If we're still in disagreement after a while, I let it go before it escalates into something mean-spirited.  If he's trying to help, and something in the process angers me, then it's a bit harder for me to stay calm, so I'll try to get out of the conversation and change the subject.

But for me, the hardest thing of all is that between 9:00 and midnight, I'm often angry for no reason at all.  We could be having perfectly happy conversation, and I'll literally pick a fight about the first thing I can come up with to fight about.  I'm currently trying to figure out what to do about this, other than talk to him at other times of the day.
