Today we were on our way to a field trip, when the van we were driving hit a car the was crossing through an intersection, nobody was hurt but it was my first accident and I was scared, because we were going about 60 MPH.

Anyway, so on the way home, I kept my eyes on the road the whole time my dad was driving, and anytime he hit the brakes I grabbed the seat belt. I'm 14, and it's driving me crazy!

  1. You can't avoid accidents. Just remember that if you take precautions like seat belts, your chances of injury are greatly reduced. Today's cars are designed to take quite a beating, while keeping the passengers safe. I'm sure your Dad is a safe driver, this was just one of those "one in a million" things. I had an accident while driving when I was 16 and driving. It just served to make me a safer driver. Nothing in life is guaranteed, but I can tell you from 30 years of professional driving experience that if you're careful and watch out for others, that you'll be O.K.

    Take care!

  2. I had a pretty bad accident at age 16. It took me a couple of weeks till I could even drive again. Im not saying this will happen to you. I think its different for each person. Just take your time and breathe a little bit if you feel nautious. I can't remember how I got over it. But I still think Im a little jumpy these days. I hope you feel better and Im glad that you're okay.

  3. Accidents can be very traumatic. So much is happening and you may not know what you need to do.

You are okay and you should be thankful for that as for getting through it, talk with your parents and friends and learn from this.......
