How can I stop being so stressed out?

I'm starting High School in 5 days. That is sorta stressing me out. Also, I found out that I don't have lunch or classes with my friends. That got me upset because I wanted to stay friends with them and I thought that if I didn't have anything with them or never saw them, then I won't be. After that incident, I've been so stressed out over everything. I don't even know what I'm saying half of the time! I just got into a stressful conversation with both of my friends over a movie and they wouldn't take me seriously. So now I think they're upset with me and I have a headache.

I will talk to them and apologize, but first, I need to find a way to stop being so stressed and how to relax. I have talked to my friend Brian about it over text (I don't feel like calling anyone and he couldn't talk for long). I know this question sounds like some 6th grade drama, but that's how ridiculous I think it is. What should I do?

  1. It may not be possible to remove the stress from your life, however managing your stress may help you to get things done.

Below are some ideas that help me managing my stress:

Go for a Walk or Run- Exercising can be a good way of relieving stress. It helps to get rid of all that pent up energy and can leave you feeling much calmer. Any sort of exercise can be good. You may want to go and kick a footy with friends or head to the gym.

Hang Out with Friends - If you are feeling stressed you may need to take your mind off things for a while. Hanging out with friends is one way of doing that. It may be that similar things that stress you out, also stress your friends out, and so talking about your problems with them may be helpful.

Taking Some Deep Breaths - Deep breathing can help to relax the body and hence calm you down. Taking deep breaths before an exam, game, job interview or before going on stage may help to calm you down and focus on what it is you are about to do.

Setting Realistic Goals - Becoming over-stressed may make it harder to keep things in perspective. Setting realistic goals (both for the short-term and long-term) and priorities and time management may be useful ways of managing your stress. You may want to check out the fact sheet on Stress at Exam Time, Time Management and Setting Goals for more information.

Have Multiple Options to Achieve your Goals - There is never just one way to achieve something. It's important not to put all your eggs into one basket - investigate and plan other ways to get to where you want to go, whether it's a uni degree, job, or holiday vacation.

Try to Avoid Smoking, Alcohol, and Caffeine - It may be tempting to use smoking and alcohol as a means of managing your stress. Try to avoid using these things as a way of coping, as in the long run they may make you more stressed out.

Watch What You're Thinking - Your outlook, attitude, and thoughts influence the way you see things. Is your cup half full or half empty? A healthy dose of optimism can help you make the best out of stressful circumstances. Even if you're out of practice, or tend to be a bit of a pessimist, everyone can learn to think more optimistically and reap the benefits.

Speaking to Someone - If you are finding you are always stressed and it is hard to carry on with day to day stuff, it may be helpful to talk to someone about it. Parents, teachers, a school counsellor or youth worker are people that may be able to help you cope.

    Good luck.

    Take care always.

  2. Relax, it happened to me 4 years ago when i started high school

remember that high school is what will pave the road for your future, be sure to pay more attention to your studies than just being with your freinds. You will make freinds in ur classes and lunch in a matter of days!

You are not the only person in this situation that is going into high school, there are probably dozens of kids around your school in the same shoes, relax, take it easy, its not like you have a disease and people are gonna avoid you for the rest of high school

trust me you will make new friends and still keep your own. Just give it some time.

  3. You should speak to them so you have someone to talk to you in school in the hallways they will catch up be live me oh and think of it people with like you just talk to others and get to know good luck =]]]

  4. Just chill, hon.

  5. well u cant get rid of the stress. u just gotta deal with it. maybe go watch a movie or something, get ya mind off it. whatever u do, stop imagining what ya first day will be like. ya little mental image screen aint psychic. it cant show you what itll be like. so dont even think about it.

when the day comes it comes. and it wont be all that bad, youll get used to it. highschool is only 4 years, so think of it like that. you'll be out in no time girl. dont stress.

  6. Just calm down!!!!  high School is your next mile stone to conquer...on your own.  Friendships will be tested.  You will have all the opportunity in the world to make new friends.  Honestly, once I got to high school, I really only stayed friends with a couple of my grade school friends, and my best friend from grade school and high school is still my best friend today.  Besides there are so many more better thing to worry about than grade school friends.  Trust me...you will be just fine!!! I promise ; )

  7. Realize your problems aren't squat compared to REAL ones. Wait until you get old.
