Is it possible to make it download just one file instead of the main file and the part file?

  1. Why would you want to? This is how it protects the download while building the main file. It deletes the second file once it has finished. It does NOT download 2 files, it creates the main file from the temporary downloaded one.

  2. The part file should not be there if the download has completed successfully.  It is normally only there while the download is in progress.

  3. No, it's designed that way. The main file allocates the space needed for the download, and the part file is the incremental bytes to comprise the whole file. The part file is temporary only as it would be incorporated in the finished download and would be needed if your connection is temporarily disconnected and opted to resume it later. The part file is necessary if you do not want to resume the download from the first byte, which would truly be time-consuming especially for large files.

  4. You can't. No it isn't possible. Firefox is designed that way. It doesn't actually download two files. When the download is complete the temporary part file gets deleted. You only see it while the download is taking place.

Perhaps the problem you are having is that the download isn't completing properly. Try to find the file at another location on the internet. There may be something wrong with the site you are currently trying to download from.
