It's a really hot summer and the hornets are out in full! They are driving my two horses mad and I wondered if anyone knew of any remedies or effective repellents to stop them bothering the horses.

  1. uhmm.. do they have any kind of spray? that u could spray the place wr the horses are at???  my aunt owns a farm with horses but we nevr rlly had this problm b4... im rlly sorry i wsnt much help. good luck tho!

  2. Depends on what is going after them.  Are they yellow jackets?  Hornets or wasps that nest in the ground may be nesting out in the pasture, and the horses are getting into them as they graze.  Putting dry ice down the nest at night will wipe them out and prevent the horses from getting a face full of stinging insects.

Honeybees and horses don't get along - you don't keep beehives, do you?  I've heard it's the smell of their sweat that drives bees crazy, and they will go after horses every chance they get.

A good citronella spray should be used reglarly this time of year anyway for flies, and some of these sprays will also help repel other flying insects.  You might also want to use a fly mask to prevent any eye injuries.  Make sure their pasture is free of nests and keeping them sprayed should help.

  3. There are traps that they go inside and get stuck. You could also try to keep the horses in different places and move them to different places once or twice a day.

  4. I have had this problem before with my 5 horses i used a wasp spray and looked for the nest. Also we got pest control people in to take a look and see if there was a nest and they found it really quickly and got rid of it and they never came back again so maybe you should give that a try ! Good Luck ! x

  5. if there are hornets or bees after your horses then there probualy means there is a nest around... look all over to try to find the nest once you do dispose of the nest with hornet spray and your problem should be resoved.... Hornets usulay dont attack or swarm unless they are threatend... my horses lived with a hornets nest above his i and out stall for about a month.. and only when i was in his doing his stall and tossing shaving up would they start comming... once i got rid of the nest they werent there no more... good luck... but if that dont work... give them chopped garlic in a jar(buy it at the store) and give them a tablespoon of that in there feed.... it works good for bugs... mabe hornets... good luck
