Question:

How can I stop my cat from messing with my closet door?

My cat (Kosey) always comes up to my room when I'm sleeping and begins pawing at my closet door. It's extremely annoying because the door is a paneling material and it makes a lot of noise.

Is there perhaps something I can spray on the door to keep him away from it or something? I can't lock him out of my room because some of my other cats will scratch at my bedroom door!

Is there any solutions for me? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! =) Thanks!

  1. Try taping aluminum foil on the door.  Most cats do not like the sound and will back away from it.

Also, if you can catch Kosey in the act give him a squirt with a water bottle.

    Good Luck!

  2. OMG my cat does the same thing!!!!!! We built a wall of pillows around the door and any time our cats go near the door we clap really loud and they back away. Or you could keep a water spray bottle and whenever they scratch @ the door, spray them very lightly, just enough that they will feel it. They should learn quick enough. Hope I helped!!! :-)

  3. go 2 the pet shop and get some spray that stops cats from scratchin ive got canac pet behave training spray its for dogs and cats but it stoped my cat from scratching my wall when she was a kitten just spray were u dont want her 2 scratch and she wont like the smell cos it dos smell bad but just open a window we did and u will find it works quite qick without u havein 2 do anythin hope this helps hun

  4. In addition to the other suggestions, you might also try some vertical scratch pads or posts for him on different doors or parts of the house. (http://www.petco.com/product/101947/Petl...

I keep my closet doors slightly ajar because whenever my cats encounter a closed door to a room or closet that they've been into before, they become obsessed with opening that door, for some reason.

One of my cats sometimes wanders through the house opening all the cabinets at night or when I'm at work.  I had to put a child-safe lock on the cabinet with all the cleaners.

  5. MY CATS DOES THAT SAME THING! ITS SO ANNOYING! AND THEY LIKE TO SLEEP ON MY CLOTHES TOO! MAYBE THEY LIKE HOW ITS NICE AND DARK IN THERE! LOL WE REALLY CAN'T STOP THEM FROM  DOING THAT!

  6. I am remembering a cat we had for many years . He used to run his paw up and down the shutters in the bedroom to get us up. He also would close the bedroom door and then "knock" on it to wake us up. To combat this I went to the hardware store and bought some felt weatherizer and applied it to the door edge. No more noise and he stopped after a few tries

  7. You could use double sided tape the same way as the aluminum foil was described.  This also works well on furniture to train your cat not to scratch

  8. when she does that shout noo or hit her on the nose very light good luck
