My boy cat,Zuko, keeps urinating on the kitchen counter. It has happened in succession for over 3 days. He knows not to go on the kitchen counter. He seems to always do it on an oven mit.

  1. is he fixed? if not that could be it.. also they will do that if they are angry. Did you change anything that he was used to food? brand of litter? it could also be the sign of an infection.. when cats have urinary issues they will pee on something soft.( the oven mit}

  2. First, you need to keep him off the kitchen counter.  He will get on it when you aren't around.  Go to a pet supply store and get a pad that makes a noise when he jumps on it.  He won't like the noise and will learn to stay off the counter.

  3. get him a liter box so he'll stop and have some where to go to the bathroomand mabe he's marking his terrotory

  4. i had a cat that did the exact thing.  i punished him only to find out he had  crystals in his urinary tract.  i almost waited too long to find out from a vet. my poor cat was in terrible pain and it was the only way he could tell me.      i also had a female who pooped in front of me, she got an infection after being fixed, again, how could she tell me?

       scoop out the wet litter, don`t mix it in, and yes,they need clean washed catboxes everytime the litter is changed.

  5. He has marked that area - first of all, it's time to get a new mitt - no matter what you do, the smell is there - you may not smell it - but the cat does.  Next clean the counter with a bleach product.  There is probably an issue with the litterbox.  You need to make sure the litterbox is cleaned completely - scraping the bottom of the box...replacing the litter you are taking out with new litter.  Do not use additives that smell good to you - it may be offensive to the cat (they don't need lemon scented deodorants).  Make sure you thoroughly clean the box at least every 3-4 weeks using soap and water (not bleach, or pinesol-like products - soap and water are fine) and completely drying it out before replacing the litter.  Finally, make sure the litterbox is not near the food dish (would you want to eat in a dirty, smelly bathroom?).  If this doesn't work, you need to make an appointment with you vet to rule out any health issues.
