How can I stop my dog from having gas?

He is killing me. It has gotten a lot worse over the past few weeks. He eats Blue Buffalo large breed puppy food which is a pretty good food. I don't give him any human food and very little treats. How can I stop this? Has anyone had this problem?

  1. I would talk to your vet. Some foods can make puppies have gas when it is not the right type for them. I know some breeds are prone to having gas, but talk to your vet to see what he recommends doing. Maybe there is a specific food that may help with this issue.

  2. It could just be the breed of the dog. We have boxers, and whew do they stink. You could always just try switching foods to see if it worked. I'm not a professional though hehe!

    Hope that helped.

    Good Luck! Aha!

  3. I just looked at the web site and there are a few different formulas.  You might try switching to a different kind of Blue Buffalo and see if that makes a difference.

Another idea: you might try moistening the food with some warm water.  I know the food I use recommends that to activate the enzymes in the food.  He may be having trouble digesting it.

  4. hmmm, go to your vet. it may be the food. we gave our dog to many treats and she had gas. our vet told us we should give her one a day. just ask him at your normal vet visit

  5. Lots of water!

  6. My guess is your stuck....

my sisters dog is the same/ Good food & no human food. And she stinks. Plus they are loud.

you could try exercise. More movement outside might encourage it to come out outside.

    Good luck to you

  7. How long has he been eating the Blue Buffalo? Maybe it just doesn't quite agree with him. My female dog got gassy after we started ours on Canidae, but it eventually passed (pardon the pun).

  8. Yes, that is a good food, but it is possible that he has a sensitivity to one of the ingredients in the food, or in some of the treats you are giving him.  My Boston turned out to have a Barley allergy (discovred after the Canidae ingredient switch).  I got her put on a grain-free food, and her gassiness is now declining again.  If the gas is getting worse on the food you're feeding, try out a limited-ingredient food (For a large-breed puppy, I would recommend one of Wellness's allergy foods, or one of the Natural Balance potato-based foods) and see if it improves on that.
