Question:

How can I stop my furniture getting mouldy while in storage?

I'm putting all my furniture in the spare room of a friend's house while I go on some long term travelling (probably a couple of years). The room has some heat (a radiator on low temp) but otherwise will be locked shut so not ventilated. I'm worried that everything will get mouldy. Is there some special way to wrap and/or otherwise protect the soft things like sofas so they are still good when I return?

  1. cover it with bubblewrap?

  2. Mould is caused by moisture, so therefore if you want to ensure that no mould grows, then use a dehumidifier in the room and set it to 20% moisture in the air. Don't set for 0% because that is impossible in normal settings.
