Question:

How can I stop my hamster from biting?

My hamster either bites me or runs away every time I put my hand inside the cage. I raised it since it was a baby, and for some reason it doesn't seem to like me.

What should I do?

P.S. If your answer is to kill my hamster, go away, your only making me feel worse. Really. I mean it. This has happened to me a lot of times already.

  1. ok dont kill the hampster. but hampsters are jus mean and i would suggest getting a mouse instaed.

  2. Every time you put your hand in the cage, have a treat in your hand. I suggest yogourt drops. It will get used to you eventually. Try picking it up with gloves. Eventually he will get used to it.

  3. um anthony [guy before me]? learn how to spell "hamster" before offering advice that doesn't even help.

my friend has this trick he did with my hamster, i find it rather stupid, but he claims that it worked.

he put on this thick glove. and had the hamster bite him, and after a few times of the hamster not getting a reaction out of him, the hamster just stopped biting =.=

but other than that, you can try letting it get used to your scent... i dunno how often you play with it, but i might not be too used to being around you. if that doesn't get it use to you, try feeding it with your hand some hamster treats [while wearing thick gloves if you're hesitant], this way it'll eventually connect you to the nice treats that you feed him/her. and should, overall, have a ... less aggressive reaction to your presence.

  4. Did this just start happening recently or has he/she always been like this? We just adopted a new hamster and a friend suggested putting a treat in our hand until the hamster gets use to us.  It seems to be working she climbs right on and we take her out.  Just be patient and calm, animals can sense fear.
