How can I stop my hamster from....?

Question

making a nest in the wheel of its cage. I got the critter trail x cage and the 360 wheel is where the nest is. i try to dump all the "nesting" stuff into her hide out and show waffles, my hammie this is where you sleep but she wont listen! HELP!

My hammie has the same cage and does the same thing! I eventually closed the wheel off, but she chewed through it. I suggest taking her out more, maybe 3x's a day at least. it helped me!

i dont think she is going to listen because i dont think she understands what you are saying to her. just let her be maybe she likes it better on the wheel.

Get another wheeland put it in her cage...she'll never learn. My hamster had the same problem so i gave it away (the cage) and got another.

Remove the wheel from the cage. She will make another nesting spot.Then put the wheel back after 1 week.

You can detatch the wheel and put a tower or whatever there instead and get a regular wheel. But you can just leave it there- she might get mad if you move it.

haha. my gerbil does the same thing!  except, he nestes under the wheel.  even when i have a hiddie hole for it.  I have two, so one sleeps in the upstairs part of it. and one is supposed to sleep in his thing down stairs.  but mine sleeps under the wheel... to block off the wheel you need just take the wheel out.. soon he/she will learn that she needs to find somewhere else and go back to the original spot.  If all they are doing is sleeping on the wheel, that's not a big deal, they scrapings will come off when he runs on it... but still if you don't like that... remove the wheel for about a week.  If you have any more questions or concerns.. don't feel afraid to contact me at ::: [e-mail]

there really is no way to "show" waffles that she can't make her bed in her wheel. Put a little hide away house in the cage and try that.

i have the same cage and my hamster does the same thing if they think it is nice to them and thats all the want to saty u should leave it there also dont move nest because they will get agetated and will build lost and lost of nest or they just like to see the cage glow at night thats all i can say
