How can I stop my well water from spotting my clothes during wash cycle?

I believe that something about the well water here causes discoloration in my clothes. I seem to have spotting and running of colors that occur during wash cycle whether it is hot or cold water wash. Any suggestions??

try using borax with  your detergent.  when my DH's clothes are particularly dirty, it's the only thing that works to get everything clean.
