How can I stop "advertisements" from appearing on my Yahoo homepage and on my mail page?

These ads are like "pop'up" and they only started when I finally opened my Yahoo Messenger, which I had not previously used. Now the ads are there whenever I sign-on to Yahoo -- and they change constantly, i.e, mortgage rates, botox, find your graduating class, etc. What did I do to cause this?

Use Delete on your Mail page.

Yahoo does not have pop up advertising. The only time they do this is for special events  like movies or events or for you to fill out a survey. It sounds like you have adware or malware on your computer. Please use a service to remove those and you should see things return to normal.  I reccomend Ad-aware from lavasoft.com The other option is to turn on a pop up blocker. I would suggest removing it as it could cause more problems down the road.
