We have 2 10 month old cats, male and female and recently they've been bringing in dead birds, mice, etc. I know this is in their nature but now it's becoming very annoying! Is there anything that can be done to make them stop?....

  1. yeah,I have a cat, get them desexxed, so they sleep more, dont let them out at night feed them more raw meat like... chicken necks , hearts (ew) stuff like that and yeah, i know its really sad when they do that =/ but desexing my cat kinda stopped it

  2. Our cat does exactly the same thing - loves to present us with gifts of shrews, voles, mice and rats (thankfully the majority are deceased before they get indoors!).  When Cleo first presented us with a 'gift' I promptly picked her up and took her to her cat flap with the offering still in her mouth. Now when she does it, I just have to stand up, say 'out' and point towards the cat flap and she takes it away again.  She normally comes back in about 5 mins later and I tell her she's a clever girl and give her a cuddle.

  3. I know... this happens to me alot... all you really have to do is be extra careful when you open doors so you dont let them out...

  4. Unless you keep them inside, they will keep giving you gifts. They think they are providing for their family & are quite proud to do so. Can't scold them for that. They love you. Make a big fuss & thank them (ugh!) then get rid of the goodies when they aren't looking.

  5. Cats are hunters - leave them indoors if you really want to stop this. Let them out under supervision. Don't put bells on their collars it's cruel and doesn't work anyway.

When I had outdoor cats - I would praise them when they brought things in - then they would stop at one, if you tell them off they keep bringing more to try and please you. But really Indoors is best - set them up with a good indoor play area and play with them or get a nice enclosure netting set up outdoors then everyone is safe and happy.

  6. Keep them inside! Plus they might get fleas so keep them in!

  7. SEND YOUR VET AN EMAIL...THEY'LL KNOW WHAT TO DO

  8. Feed them canned food more often.

  9. cats are very loyal creatures, they bring the birds and mice to as a gift, it may not seem like it to you but it is. They would rather you eat then them.     This is a natural behavior and is not bad. You could try feeding them more so they feel that they are full and not need to catch the mice and birds, also you could play with them, so they dont need to play with the mice and birds

    hope i can help

  10. I'm sorry but no. I don't think its possible for them. Like you said its in their nature.  I have a cat and he's nine years old and he still brings in dead critters!!

  11. don't open the door! Don't let them in! I have a cat who does that too but whenever he wants to come in the house with a bird or mouse in it's mouth I don't let him come in. I don't like dead animals in the house either.

  12. Well I can't relate cause of all the cats I've had, I never let them out of the house!

  13. Get rid of the cats!

  14. If you stop them from bringing you 'gifts' they will be insulted. Etiquette demands that you accept these gifts. What you do with them is your business. You must be a very good owner to deserve all this attention from your cats.

In other words, it's in their nature. You can't make them stop.

  15. You can't stop them if the are outside, its there natural instincts to hunt.

  16. I've been told the cats are bring their kill to you as an honor.  They want to give something to you for approval for sharing your food with them.  Don't scold them or they will think it was not suitable and will go hunting again to please you.  Just remove it to the garbage , and take them in and distract them or sit and praise them.  It is a natural instinct for them to hunt.  Perhaps give them the furry mice toys from the cat dept. in the pet store with catnip in them.

  17. hahahaha, once, my cat brought a dead mouse in, in the middle of the night and dropped it on my dad's face! it was so funny! we all just thought of it as a gift from him, like he was trying to show my dad how talented he was or something, lol.

  18. keep the cats in at night.  When they come in, reward them with a small piece of ham or cheese. Also, get them some toys, and encourage the cats to play with them. I do all these things with my 2 cats (now 8yrs and 10yrs old).  My cats NEVER kill anything.  They occasionally bring LIVE mice, frogs and birds home, though.

  19. Hi, sadly not a lot you can do, you could always get a bell for your cats collar,so to give the birds a better chance of getting away, they will hear your cats coming.

for your male cat you can always get him doctored to calm him down a bit if he is not already done

    regards x kitti x

  20. Don't let them out of the house

  21. give them things to play with...they're actually showing you presents...they love you and want you to have 'things'...so give THEM things that YOU love...things that aren't dead...
