my nan used to put plastic bags tied on the line a few along the length of it and i do the same and iv no p**p not sure if its the bags but iv no probs

Look at clothes airers on Ebay (UK). There is one there with a kind of umbrella thingy over it that not only keeps rain off, but also stops the problem that you describe.

It was invented by someone who went on one of those inventers-seeking-funding television programs.

Buy a fake snake, like a rubber one, and put it where ever you dont want the birdies to p**p on, they will think its a real snake and not get near it. It worked for my neighbors roof, so i dont see why not your washings. Give it a try
