  1. Well D,

There are several groups of Okinawan Goju (IOGKF, Meibukan, etc). They will have different procedures and rules about goign to Okinawa and training. You may need a letter of introduction, etc. You may be just totally free to drop in at the dojos there... it will depend on your association.

If you are not in one of the larger groups, it could make it more difficult. I was in a similar situation when I wanted to come to Japan way back when...

but that is a long story...

The world is an open place. But if you belong to a group, you should follow their rules... it makes it a lot easier for everyone (including you)...even if it does mean you have to jump thru a few hoops.

Being in Japan, I have seen many a person come here and not realize how their eagerness creates a lot of problems for the teachers, the associations, and more. And then they do not understand why they cannot take a test, or take part in an event, etc with the rest of the class (as many times the issues are still being dealt with...).

So, as much as possible, follow your groups procedures.

If you are not in a group, you can contact me further for some personal advice if you want.
