Hey guys, I'm going out to the Pacific for a while and was wondering how I could surf if I wore contacts and had crappy vision without them. Any help would be awesome, thanks.

  1. just wear them I wear contacts and surf with them on. just dont open your eyes when youre under water or about to fall. My optometrist said theres really nothing wrong with wearing your contacts while surfing, but she did tell me to take them off as soon as I'm done and put them in the solution to disinfect them. So bring extra pair just in case you do lose them and youre set

I too have long distances problem I've tried to surf without contacts before and i can tell you it was so difficult to tell when a set was coming till it was already too late

  2. Your optomitrist should be able to offer you swim goggles with prescription lenses.  Many surfers wear goggles, anyway, to minimize the irritation that salt water does to the eyes, so, you won't look particularly odd to others.

Don't wear your contacts out on the water.

  3. I use contacts when I surf glasses can fall off too easy even if you have something to secure them... One wave pounds you and goodbye glasses

  4. you don't need to read while your surfing. take contacts out before you get in the water. they might fall out. and glasses will fall of you in a matter of seconds.

  5. hey, yes i too have the problem of bad vision for long distance so when surfing, i literally cant see the set coming in. not good! goggles will fall off and contacts have worked for me really well - just close your eyes before wiping out! also, i have disposables so if they do fall out, i keep a spare pair in my car. have fun in the pacific!!

  6. When your squinting with the sun shining off the water and your eyes are soaked in salt water, you can't see that well to begin with. take the contacts out and go in the water. Since you obviously have never surfed before, hook up with a good surf shop for some lessons and a rental board. Believe me, while your just playing around with lessons, you don't need to see much.

Also, please don't think that it's cool to just show up on the Beach with a rented board and dash into the water and be a "surfer." Take some time to learn what you are doing, or stay in the hotel bar.

  7. I just got contacts like 4 months ago and I asked the optometrist if it was ok to wear them surfing and she said its fine as long as you dont open your eyes under water. its ok if they get wet but clean them out after your done surfing otherwise you will be putting them back in with bacteria on them. And when your completely done surfing and aren't going back out for a while, you have to throw them away and start off with a new pair. Ive been surfing with contacts for a while and Ive never had a problem.

  8. talk to your eye doctor... he/ she might subscribe you a glasses/ goggles thing

  9. Try goggles. I wear contacts when I swim. To prevent the water from washing them away I wear goggles.
