I have been thinking about trying out for the swim team at my school, and just timed myself doing a 50 freestyle. It was 51.2 s, and I am pretty sure that's bad. How can I swim faster?

Also, I was getting pretty tired while doing it, so how do I not get tired?

And third, what type of exercises are good for swimming? Like workouts?

  1. try increasing your breath holding by noting time while dipping under water......

might be ur technique is not good enuf...

observe your coaches how they swim... above and under water... try imitating them...

u can do some tred milling too....

ask ur coaches if they can give u sum heats to increase ur strength too..

u can surely make it if u put rigorous training...

    all the best! :)

  2. Hi, I am on a swim team 2 years, and first I had to go to A group, I did not want to stay there so I worked so hard, that I finally got to go to B, then C group. I get tired really fast thought that's because  of  bad food

  3. It is always great to tryout something new. i would tryout for the schools swim team because there is nothing to loose. but before that it is important to keep your body in its best shape. can you do a flipturn? if not try to or you can email me and i will teach you how (greatneckrose@yahoo.com) doing flipturns will help you a whole lot with improving your time if you do it right. if its the 50 freestyle that you would like to get better at here is a work out for just the 50 free. since you dont swim on a team ill give you a easier

500 freestlye (warmup) breath every 3 if you can-this will help your development of lungs

8* 50 on one minute- this will help your body get used to your heart rate up and you wont get as tired the next time you swim a 50 freestlye. you can gradually make the times shorter as you become faster

200 freestyle- on every other fifty you sprint like this.....

50 sprint/50 easy/50 sprint/ 50 easy no rest if you find that you can do this easily then you can do this set again for 3 times tip: try not to go to slow during the easy becuaes you dont want to slow down your heart rate alot

finally warm down 500 freestyle every 4 lap you speed

legs- running, lunges, rollerblading, bike riding, wall sits  and so on

core- crunches, situps, russian swists, idk what there called but you have your hand on your tailbone and lift your feet up one foot above ground and hold it for as long as you can.

arms- pull ups, push ups, benches.

    and many more

you dont have to lift weights but i dont think that would hurt to try.

i know that this was a long read but i believe that this will help you improve alot on your 50 free you wont see progress in the first day. it might take a week but trust me you will feel it if you do a 51 for 50 free. i do sets similar to these but on faster times and longer distance (which you can do also after you get better) and now i do a 25.73 for 50 freestyle. if you feel tired you know your working hard but never over work yourself. keep swimming and good luck!

  4. you just have to practice. there's technically not any other way. just keep swimming and over time you will speed up. and that's not bad. my friend is a junior in high school and on the swim team and swims a 50m free in 49.83 seconds at his fastest. same thing with the tiring thing. the more you swim the slower you get tired.

try kicking with a kickboard for your kicks. then put like a pull buoy between your legs and do freestyle strokes to work on your arm strokes.

  5. Try going to a swimming club to get faster and build your stamina!

    Remember....practise makes perfect!
