Question:

How can I switch back to Vicodin from Mobic?

My doctor prescribed me Hydrocodone (Vicodin) for my back. I have been taking it for a few weeks. I called for a refill and he asked me to come in. Then he prescribed me Mobic. It doesn't work as well as Hydrocodone. What can or should I do to get back on Vicodin?

  1. You can talk to your doctor, but you might not get very far.  Vicodin works wonderfully but is extremely habit forming.  (It's from the heroin/morphine family of drugs, a schedule 3 controlled substance. These drugs block the pain receptors so that you literally don't feel pain.  That's why they are so popular and easy to abuse.) It's not ment for long term usage - it's for accute pain, or for terminally ill patients.

Mobic is an anti-inflammatory drug, it's much safer to take long term.  It's ment to loosen up the muscles and joints and prevent inflammation.  It's designed for everyday usage.

Your doctor probably felt that you were past the need for an immediate pain killer - he/she should have discussed this with you, but if you're not in excruciating, horrible pain they did the responsible thing in not giving you more vicodin.

Sorry to not be able to give you an answer you wanted to hear.
