  1. the main thing is how deep the scratch is.  if it is a minor surface scratch, there are touch up pens you can buy at the hardware store to cover the scratch.  you have to blend them in, though, you can't just draw a straight line to cover the scratch.  if the scratch is deep, you will need wood filler and then have to sand it down and recolor that area.

  2. buy a new one.

  3. how deep is the sratch?

I find Marvea (sp?) works well on light scratches.

  4. You can diminish the appearance of a "scratch", by using a product called "HOWARD RESTOR A FINISH".    A scratch, is effectively a cut that breaks the surface of the finish on a piece of furniture, and when that occurs, the"scratch" will appear whiteish/yellowish looking.    If you can feel the scratch, the HOWARD RESTOR A FINISH, will "recolor" the line of the scratch, and by doing that, the scratch will appear, to be less offensive.    If you cannot feel the scratch, but can see it, the HOWARD RESTOR A FINISH, can be used, following the products instructions, with a 0000 steel wool pad, to rub out the scratch using the HRAF as a lubricant.    If neither effort, remedys your problem, then, the next step is to have it either repaired by "Touch up" by a professonal furniture repair tech, or by Stripping and refinishing process, again, by a professional.   Problems like this, are at times difficult for a DIY'er.    Unless you have the experience, equipment, and proper work area, the DIY'er, can make it into a worse problem.   My suggestion, is to have it processed by a professional.   You should be able to find one in your local phone book.
