  1. Simply remove it.  Just make sure the wires that are left are not touching each other.  In most cases the black and yellow wires are not being used.  The red and green ones are the most commonly used.  If by some chance the jack you are taking out has 8 wires in it then I suggest connecting the wires together based on color.  This would indicate that the line headed to that jack also feeds another phone line.

  2. For your home and your safety, don't remove unless you are familiar with it. Ringer voltages and surges from the line while removing the jack may shock you too.

Best is to call a technician to do it. However, as your Q is how to remove it, just follow all the suggestions of the answerers above. Don't touch the conductors.

  3. you should leave the jack in place, much easier to leave it there than pull the jack and have to reinstall it later...

BUT if you really want to take it out...

You WILL NOT GET HURT if you pull the cover, and unscrew it from the wall, then cut the cable flush with the wall. The next installer will cuss you, but it is one way to remove the jack.

However, if you want to do it correctly, unscrew the conductors from the jack, trim the wire back to where the insultation still covers the conductor, then put a piece of Scotch electrical tape on each conductor.

  4. why take it out?  just remove phone.

otherwise the safest way is to pay an expert to do it.
