Have any of you any ideas?? We used to have a cat but unfortunately when my son was born he was not happy so we had to find him a new home. Now 5 years later I would love another but hubby (who used to love last cat) is adamant that we are not getting another as it would ruin the leather suite we now have!! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

  1. Promise to whatever he says for the rest of your time together

  2. Tell him that you found mouse droppings in his favourite shoes.

  3. He is right, there is the danger a kitten would ruin a leather suite. All you can do is tell him you will get a cat scratching post (they don't always work, but don't tell him that). Promise to keep it out of the room with the suite in, when you aren't there to watch it.

  4. get rid of the claws and tell him that it could be a neck warmer when he sleeps and it will be like a fury toy that moves. but make sure it ok with kids and doesn't mind being toyed with by the child. best thing to do is ge the claws removed safely

  5. PFFFTTT don't beg or promise to do anything he wants for the rest of your time together (lame) rme

Start by asking for a dog and down grading to a cat. That might work for ya :)  Look for a cat that is already declawed. Having them declawed is very inhumane. Ask the Humane Society they will tell you.

BTW- it's YOUR house as well. Who is going to feed it and change it's litter?? More than likely you = )

    Good Luck!!

  6. Bring a kitten home from the RSPCA or wherever and say you found it crying outside the back door.  He'll soon come round to the idea. (I did, years ago).

With a scratching post, the sofa will be safe.

  7. I have a Bengal. He has a scratching post but prefers to use the wallpaper, he also puts his claws into anything that is new. I think it is something to do with scenting everything in his home. Our leather suite has stood up very well although it does have a slight evidence of claws. It is fairly shiny so not such a problem. Best to find out if that really is the main reason your hubby is objecting. I find cats turn up on my doorstep when other people don't care for them. Or someone has problem keeping them as they end up with me. I would suggest mentioning the idea but then keep quiet till it becomes his idea, do make sure you really want a kitten though.

  8. make him sleep on the sofa for a week and then just buy one anyway.

  9. \i dont understand how people can discard a cat just because a baby comes along.\iv worked in rehoming centres, and had 8yr olds brought in .that they didnt want because a baby was on the way,Id sugest, you stick with the baby as theirs every chance you will give another on away .

If your worried about ruined furniture ,then you might have to "give the baby away aswell, they ruin things So watch hubby doesnt move it on!!!!!,

It annoys me how easy you can get rid of one then think its OK to go out and get another!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. First say you want a rotweiller, when he says no way throw a tantrum kick and scream a bit then when you say ok I'll settle for a kitten he'll agree thinking  he got off lightly

  11. Swear you'll have it's claws surgically removed.

  12. It's his house too.  If he doesn't want a cat, his views should be considered.

However, tell him that the next time he really, really wants something and you don't - it's his turn to be gracious.  If he wants it badly enough - you'll get the kitten.

  13. I just got ours and although he wasn`t a real `cat`person,he soon learned to love it and now he spoils it as much as I do.It only took him a day or two to get used to it!

  14. Your husband said no, that doesn't mean maybe, it doesn't mean perhaps, it doesn't mean he can be nagged into changing his mind it means NO.

    Live with it.

  15. You could just find the most adorable kitten and bring it home. He'd find it pretty hard to say no. Honest!

Or, if you really think that would totally wreck the marriage take him to the house of someone with a really lovely well behaved cat or kitten and see what that does for him.

Kittens, though, themselves are the best answer to any anti-cat argument!

  16. If you want a little kitty just go and get one!  I'm sure once you get your kitty your husband will come round to the idea and love it just as much as he loved your other cat.

Just get a scratching post, the taller the better as cats like to have a long stretch whilst doing this and i'm sure as long as your attentive to your cats needs, he/she will leave your leather sofa alone.  They only do that if they're not getting what they want!

    Good Luck!

  17. Adopt a cat when your husband isn't around and then be like i found this kitten outside my work, he was a stray, why don't we keep him! Thats what i would do anyway...

  18. If he doesn't want one there is not much you can to. I have a cat and 5 dogs and so far my leather sofa's are fine - just normal wear and tear.
