  1. collect items that are different like a shiny coin or a scary mask. use hands on teaching if u can handle it.

  2. One very good way to teach this to LD students is to use a graphic organizer or word web. This helps the student form a schemata or structure to aide with memory. Here are some sites with free graphic organizers.

    www.teachervision.fen.com/graphic-orga...

    www.edhelper.com/teachers/graphic_orga...

I also like the idea of bringing in favorite objects and describing them. You could then have them fit the words they think of into the graphic organizer.

  3. Am not a teacher*

  4. Have them bring in a favorite possetion- a stuffed animal, souvenir, or anything else. Then try brainstorming to think up adjectives.

  5. When i worked on parts of speech with my college special ed students I used School House Rocks. There are the old versions and a newer version of some of the songs made by popular bands, well, they were popular at the time, mid 90s, when the CD came out.

It worked pretty well, and when some of the students see me they will say, "Mr. Morton is the subject of my sentence, and what the predicate says, he does." so, at least part of it stuck.
