  1. let your dog get used to your family. It takes time.

  2. I'm  working  on  that with  a  cocker I got that was about 2.  Any way he is  very protective of  me.  I  have  worked  with  him having other person  sit in room with  me  and  offer  him treats. At  first  I have him outside or in kennel till they settle  in  But  there is  a  problem  if  they just  come on in house before I get to door.  If  he  keeps  acting  up I  secure  him with  a leash somewhere  in room and  continue  to talk to person and  ignore  him. Then I let  him lose and let  them offer treat.  By then he has  decided they are not  a  threat.  I'm  still in beginning  stages but its  working so far.

  3. You should hire a personal dog trainer. Sounds like your dog has aggression issues, which can often be very difficult to remedy.

  4. Give the dog a firm 'no'.  If it continues, bop him on the nose or grab the muzzle.  It's not supposed to be painful.  Grabbing the muzzle is the same thing a mother dog will do to a misbehaving puppy.  If someone comes over, have them give the dog a treat when he isn't barking.

  5. Make sure that when you have company over they never look the dog in the eye. That is considered a challenge for the dog. Have your friends or family member ignore the dog. You have to correct the dog when he growls. It's a good idea to have a leash when you have company. and just give a firm tug on the leash.

  6. Whenever my dog would growl at me or my family, we would pop his nose, right on the type, and say ' no, bad dog' before long he caught on. We learned it from a dog trainer.

  7. chihuahuas are very protective in general. what i do with mine, is if someone comes over, i let them touch my dogs so they have a chance to smell them and see that theyre not a threat. ive had mine for two yrs and they now know to right away come up and inspect. but they no longer growl or bark, they just stay realllllly close to their mother just in case, lol ;)

  8. The best way to teach him/her is to have company over  and have him/her smell them and get to know them and  if him/her growls just say no or stop or what ever you do to your dog.
