I would like to learn to play guitar. How would I teach myself to play some songs? I am most interested in some Jack Johnson songs like Taylor, Do You Remember, Never Know. Any help would be appreciated

  1. I learned some song like amazing grace, ol suzanna, and a few other common "country folk" songs but I also learned a crazy frog song ^_^. I taught myself all of these songs and a few more all by playing around on the frets. I learned these songs by ear and I am now working on a more complex song Dance, Dance by Fall Out Boy, Best of luck and it can get frusterating so get a squeaky toy (dog toy). lol maybe you will write a song about it that will get famous and i can sit there like "what, is that the squaky song, NAH. Its too good" again Best of luck

  2. Just feel the chords. All you have to do is pluck some and then soon enough you will figure it out.:)

  3. I would personally recommend getting a guitar book at a local music store, learning the chords, and then go on ebay or something and search for a Jack Johnson music book, and then with practice you will be able to play those songs. I love Jack Johnson :]]

  4. i suggest first studying the chords and chord progression go to http://www.chordfind.com when you already know the chords practice shifting chords quickly and if you are able to do this you'll be able to play a few songs or two. go to http://www.ultimate-guitar.com for tabs. when you've mastered the chords you could try to experiment with harder songs involving picking and other stuff. try going to http://www.justinguitar.com if you wanna know more about guitars. and lastly practice it doesnt necessarily have to be 2 hours a day but try practicing as long as you can cause the more you practice the faster you'll improve. so good luck and enjoy playing the guitar!

  5. Any Mel Bay intro book will get you to where you can strum 9 chords. After that, check out user reviews on dvd lessons at Amazon and go for it.  Eventually you'll need a teacher or another strummer/picker to improve though.  Go for it!

  6. I would prefer to see you get a teacher, but with some I know that that's not possible. There are some sites on the Internet that are pretty good but they do cost. Have you tried some of your local music stores, get estimates they are not really that expensive !!!!!!! Here are some sites for you to check out !

If you want to get started on your own just get a good chord and scale book, learn three chords at a time and when you have them down and can change smoothly and without trouble go to another set of three. Don't forget you will have pain until you get the callouses necessary on your finger tips to play without pain.....and remember keep your fingers perpendicular to the fingerboard with your thumb in the middle of the back of the neck !!!!!!!! Good luck to you !!!!!! I hope that something above helps to get you started !!!!!!!

  7. Hello,,just get one and learn to read tablature that is the easiest way to get it right the first time,,you will see the chord and note arrangements in one place,,this is the coolest way to stay interested.Good Luck,,I've been doing the mess around on my guitar since 1968.
