  1. This question would require about 4,000 words to answer fully, so here is what I recommend:

Take a swimming class. If it's a half-decent swim school your instructor should talk to you, and at that point ask the instructor what you can do at home in your own swimming pool to help them progress.

  2. Sounds as if your best option is to find swim lessons to sign them up for, and have someone trained to teach kids to swim.

If lessons are not an option, and you have to do it yourself, unless you have training to teach them, I would recommend getting them coast guard certified "life jacket" suits, or a swim suit with build in foam.  It is no replacement for adult supervision, but it is better than the air-filled water wings that can pop--and it enables them to learn how to swim without having to worry about how to breath or float.  After several weeks, if they are swimming often, they might want to jacket removed--and you might be surprised as to how well they do.

    But lessons are best.

  3. First of all, they need motivation.

A good way you could do this, is to tell them they will be rewarded if they are good and listen to you.

Maybe say "you can watch your favourite video"

or "Grandpa/ma will give you a piggy back"

    then hopefully they will behave.

At this point, take them both into the water, and let them get used to it, while being in their depths.

Then help them go on their bellies in the water, and support them under their stomachs. If you can get someone to help you, each hold one child under their chins and bellies. Finally, show them a simple stroke, like front crawl or breaststroke. This could be done before hand, lying on a deckchair or bed, or in the water, whatever you prefer. Once they have mastered it, have them swim along, supporting their tummies.

The good news is after swimming all day, they will be so tired, they won't be able to be hyper!

    Good luck.
