How can I tell how fast a remote-control car is without actually driving it?

look how much volts is it if much its fast unless it has alot of accessory such as lights

measure out a certain distance, maybe a hundred feet or so.  time how long it takes to go that distance.  divide the distance by the time (d/t)  this will give you it's speed in feet per second.  5280 feet in a mile.  3600 seconds in an hour.  multiply your answer by .68 to get miles/hr.

While karack has a good answer it's not entirely correct.  Timing the car over a measured distance is a good way of figuring out how fast it is but you need to adjust for scale.  If the car is 1/4 scale then the distance has to be 1/4 scale as well.  To measure out 100 scale feet you'd need 25 real feet.  If the car is 1/10 scale you'd only need 10 real feet for 100 scale feet.  At this scale a mile would only be 528 feet.  So what scale is your car?  Then go from there.

Sometimes there's a speed on the package but usually not.  Speed isn't the only thing you can have fun with.  The control of the car can make it more fun than just speed.  If you're into racing and want a fast car get one that has a higher voltage motor and more power draw by the motor.  This should give you more speed.  If you ask others that have cars you would probably soon get a feel of which brand and model is the fastest.  

  







Another way is to determine what the maximum RPM is of the wheels.  Determine the circumference of the wheel to determine how far the car goes per wheel revolution.  Figure out how many revoltions it takes to go a scale distance and compute your scale speed from that.
