  1. Two common tests that you'll see everywhere and also are true in my case:

1: Have someone stand behind you and give you a light push. Whatever foot you put forward to catch yourself with should be the foot that you have in front on the snowboard.

2: Run across your kitchen in socks and slide across the floor. Again, whatever foot you have in front should be in front on the snowboard.

Also, sometimes, you just know because you know what's natural to you from having skateboarded before or something like that. And if you don't know, goofy means you have your right foot in front, and regular means you have your left in front.

Edit: Try riding with your left foot in front then (regular). Go with what seems natural to you. At a lot of places with rental boards you can change the setup if it doesn't work for you anyway.

  2. i dont think so

  3. Well.

    I remember my first time.

My instructor could figure out what I was: goofy or regular.

First, he told me to put my feet together and then he pushed me. My right foot went out behind me to catch my fall.

He told me I was regular. He showed me how to put it on and so on. Then he taught me how to skate.

    I couldn't skate that way.

SOOO.... I had to take my feet out and switch em' up.

They felt way better that way. I picked up things fast and was hitting the black diamond in a few hours. I ended up being "goofy".

    My point is:

You won't really be able to tell until you actually get on the snowboard.

You should feel comfortable about your stance and it should feel pretty natural.

Trust me, you'll know what stance you are.

  4. You really can't, Just pretend that you're going down a hill, and see witch foot you like to have forward, right means your goofy, and left means your regular.

  5. Ok well if you really cannot find out most people ride regular and even if you have yourself in a regular stance you can always go switch even with regular bindings so if its your first time it really doesn't matter to much because the second time you go out you will know.

  6. You just ask yourself, "What feels natural?"  What foot do you want to put forward when you try to stop (if you were running or something)?

  7. If you are standing in one spot and begin to jog forward, what foot do you lead with?  If you push off the left foot, you are typically regular.  If you push off the right foot, you are typically goofy.

  8. grab a skateboard, whatever foot you lead with determines what you are.  if you lead left foot forward you're regular, if you lead right foot forward, your goofy.

  9. Stand like you would on a skate board or surf board.  Do you feel more comfortable with your left foot forward or right?

If you are right handed and like your left foot forward then you are regular.  If you are right handed and like your right foot forward then you are goofy.

    The opposite applies for lefties.

Now you may get on the board and decide that you like the opposite position.  That happens too.

  10. If you were to do a cartwheel which leg goes in front?

If you were to step from the ground onto a high step which foot would you step up with?  Hopefully you get the same answer for both questions - if so go with that one!  Remember, if you haven't done it before either way will probably feel a bit weird at first.  Give it a try for a bit and if it just doesn't feel right you can always go back in and ask them to switch your bindings.

    Good luck!
