If you have myopia, you generally start to notice when your friends/family can see things that are a distance away, and you find it difficult to make it out. Especially words or signs that need you to distinguish the outline clearly to be able to see.

To be certain, you should go to an optometrist and they will test you formally with an Snellen chart to determine exactly how short-sighted you are. You may or may not need to get glasses for it as well.

You can see up close better than far away.  I have presbyopia which is the opposite.
