How can I tell if a German guy is interested?

hey i;m in the same sort of situation... i really like (love) this german exchange student who came to my school and is going to be staying for the rest of the year. we talk often and he has told me many times that i am beautiful and attractive. often when he tells me he loves me he'll say it in french "je t'aime". we've even kissed 4 times now.... i'm pretty sure he is interested in me... but the only problem is he has a girl friend back in germany. he never once has mentioned her to me, or even spoken about her. so should i continue this "relationship"? or is this just what germans call "close friends"?

Hi im a 17 year old female from the U.S and 8 1/2  months ago i had met a german boy on imvu virtual avatar site i cant really tell for sure but i feel he has a big interest for me hes told me "i like your style" everytime me and him chat he tells me all the time "ich liebe dich" and i say back to him "ich liebe dich auch" ive had german call for about 2 1/2 years i understand alot of the customs and the culture,hoping one day i can go and visit him in person hes always saying to me "come to germany" he was also a bit suprised i speak german,also when i chat with him hes always acting playful and happy when hes chatting with me,he has also told me "oh melissa your so cute".

so can someone help me understand if he is interested in me or not,should i pursue taking the next step?
