Question:

How can I tell if a track has been normalized for consistent volume level? MusicMatch would say "yes" or "no."

I use a utility (Zortam) to normalize the volume of my tracks. Each track is converted to the same volume, so when I listen to music, I don't have to raise and lower the volume control if a track is too quiet or too loud. The MusicMatch Library had a column labeled "Volume Level." Each track had a "yes" or "no" to indicate if a track was or was not normalized. It was easy to spot the tracks which I needed to normalize. I don't see any indication of normalization or "volume leveling" in Yahoo Music. Does Yahoo Music have an indication that I haven' found?

  1. I don't think so.  YMJ (under Preferences) does provide a check box to normalize the sound, but I believe that is strictly for playback and doesn't modify the original source.
