Question:

How can I tell if my Muscovy duck egg is fertile or not.?

It is day 13 and all I see is an air sac and the yolk. Is it alive? It has not started to rot at all. Please help!!!!

  1. well, let me say first I never handled duck eggs (I know with some eggs you arent supposed to touch, cuz it can kill them [ex: crocodile]...since you already looked at it, im guessing moving it wont hurt it...

    so if it is not rotten, thats a good sign that it is still alive.  [im also assuming you know how to candle an egg]...so just candle it...if you see veins developing, it is still alive.  Also with some eggs, the shell isnt transparent enough, so if you see a dark spot where the yolk would be, its a good sign.  

    also look for a red-ish glow coming from the candling...this would be due to the veins developing.

    whatever you do, do not assume it is dead and throw it away!

    Also look up online how long it usually takes that breed of duck to hatch...that would be a good indicator.
