We just bought some budgie Parakeets. The people we got them from said they were 10 weeks old and one was a male and one a female but how can you tell?

  1. Honestly it is almost impossible to tell.  We got a cockatiel around 4 years ago and they told us that we were getting a male bird.  Well, about a year later good old boy-bird started laying eggs.  You really can't even tell at all by trying to look under the hood.  Some people say there is a particular way the chirp, but it is really hard to say.

  2. the cere at the top of the beak pinkish

    brown = female

    blue = male

    when the are young they have a pinkis purple cere

    in some cases of stress for the male the cere turns to the same color of the female it like telling everone "hey i am not a threat don't pick on me" (it might be the other way round and i read it on the net so it may not be true)

  3. males have blue on top of their beaks

    and the females have white or light brown on top of their beaks

  4. I don't know but you could just listen to the people who told you and don't ask questions or ask them?
