How can I tell if my receiver's fuse has blown?

I've recently opened a Sony surround sound receiver to inspect whether a blown fuse is the reason it has ceased to turn on. How can I tell, by looking at it, whether the fuse has blown?

  1. If you see a clean, intact filament, it's OK.  If it's not intact or you see dark spots where it's vaporized, it's dead.  You can verify with a multimeter if you have one (it will read 0 ohms if good).

You can also try it out in another device that uses a similar or smaller rating fuse and see if it works there). I.e., if the receiver is a 4A rating, you can test it out in something rated, say, 2 Amps.

  2. the fuse will look kind of dark...will like its blown...the intentor inside the fuse will deflate if left on for quite along time. the multakered will recrome after when it is chilling outside the item

  3. Look at the fuse, there should be a thin stip of metal inside and if it is broken the fuse os blown, or check it with a mulitmeter, check the resistance should be 0.
